Howdy, All Y'all!
Can you believe it? We’re just a couple days away from ISC24TX! It’s coming up fast.
The contents of this email will be available on the website at this link.
Here is a catch-all of information about this weekend:
The Weather
If we had held this event last week, we would have had rain every day… but that has passed and we are in a good ‘ol Texas summer once again.
This weekend the weather will be pretty even: mid-70ºF (around 25ºC) for a low and 98ºF-100ºF (37ºC-39ºC) for the high.
If you want to check the weather on your phone, use the zip code “78209” for Alamo Heights (where the university is).
Please note that the rooms that we will be in are air conditioned you might want to bring a jacket. If you are part of the possible Urban Sketching group on Sunday, please dress accordingly.
The Opening Reception
Start time: 6:00pm
The opening reception for ISC24TX will be held from 6-9pm at Artisan Distillery & Craft Bar near Downtown San Antonio. The address is 402 Austin Street, San Antonio, TX 78215. Note: There is parking in the front or you can easily Uber to the venue.
Nick (our host) is preparing the Executive Lounge for us. We will be there during Happy Hour (5-8pm) where there will be $3 off cocktails and $1 off craft beer.
Food for the evening is provided by Rudy’s BBQ, the worst BBQ in Texas (and yes, that is their tagline, but it is sooooo good). We will have brisket, turkey, sausage, chopped meat, corn-in-cream, potato salad, beans, mac and cheese, and various fruit and veggies (oh, and bread and “sause” – and no, I did not spell that wrong). You can choose to have a little bit or really go to town on it!
There will be a little program around 7:30pm, so slide on in, make a friend, and enjoy the evening. Special thanks to Concepts App for sponsoring the evening.
Attendees with the General Admission, Saturday Only, and Sunday Only tickets are welcome to attend this opening night event.
If you are traveling with a friend that is not attending ISC24TX and you would like to bring them along, please feel free to do so (but do not bring an entire posse, please).
The Conference Venue
We are grateful to the University of the Incarnate Word for sponsoring our rooms for the weekend. This building was completed in the Fall of 2017 and is the central hub of the campus and will be the center of our activities.
Here is the address of the university.

Parking is free during the summer, so feel free to park on campus.
The Rooms We Will Use
Check-in will begin at 9:00am on Saturday in room SEC 2030-2031. This will be our main room for the event. There are also three breakout rooms (SEC 2032, SEC 2040-2041, and SEC 2052). Elevators, restrooms and water stations will be close by.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Snacks, Oh My!
Breakfast and coffee/tea/snack breaks will be in SEC 2030-2031. On Saturday, Prof Clayton is bringing in an assortment of breakfast tacos from his favorite taco shop to give you a small taste of a San Antonio staple food.
For lunch, each attendee will receive a pass to the cafeteria on the first floor. Since it is the weekend and summer time, brunch is served. There is something for everyone as the cafeteria prepares meals for a variety of dietary restrictions and preferences.
Thanks to Bullet Journal, Sketch Academy, and the Old Guard Sketchnoters for sponsoring lunch and the breaks!
Saturday, August 3, 2024 - ISC24TX Day 1
Start time: 9:00am
The first day of the conference, we will have planned speakers in the morning and workshops and games in the afternoon.
Over 30 of our friends from around the world that couldn’t join us in person will be watching the live stream of the morning session.
Workshops and breakouts will be announced during the morning session so you can decide over lunch where you want to go.
We will wrap up the day’s activities around 6:00pm.
Dinner will be on your own.
For those who purchased the River Barge Dining ticket, another email will instructions will be sent later on tonight.
But here is a preview: Meet at Casa Rio on the Riverwalk by 8:00pm. You can purchase a drink at the bar and bring it in the barge as only water and sweet tea will be available during the dinner service. We will board the barge at 8:20pm and the dinner and tour will be approximately an hour and 20 minutes in length. Plenty of time to enjoy San Antonio afterwards.
Sunday, August 4, 2024 - ISC24TX Day 2: The BarCamp
Start time: 9:00am
To honor the tradition that started the International Sketchnote Camp in 2017, we will be holding a “BarCamp”-style day for the second day of the conference.
For those who are not familiar with the format, a BarCamp is a series of open, participatory workshops and sessions where the content of which are provided by the participants. In other words, we turn the conference over to you.
We will spend part of the morning brainstorming together topics around sketchnoting, visual thinking, and graphic facilitation, and identifying volunteers to “teach” or “lead” the various proposed topics. I remember once that attendees wanted to learn how to better draw and include figures in their sketchnotes, so I volunteered to lead that workshop. I had a blast.
Once the schedule is set, we will post it in the main room and then the day will continue with sessions in the morning, then lunch, the more sessions throughout the afternoon.
We will wrap up the afternoon with a Q&A panel featuring our speakers and workshop leaders from Saturday and then have a closing ceremony where we will tearfully… oh, I don’t want to even think about that. So let’s talk about it later.

If you need anything, please reach out to us via email – isc24tx@gmail.com. We might not have all of the answers, but we’re pretty good at Google-ing them.
Take care and we will see you soon!
